Part of the reason we choose to bring Spring Break to Austria every year is how easy it is to get there from all parts of the UK!
Mayrhofen is just an hour from Innsbruck Airport, which has flights on Saturday, Thursday and Thursday from London. Munich is just two hours away and offers multiple flights every day from airports all around the UK. You can rent a car from either airport and split costs to keep the price down and give you options for when you go up the mountain. Don’t forget to shop around – the options that the airline give you may no be the cheapest, we’ve found that Holiday Autos can give good deals.
The drive from the UK takes around ten hours on fast motorways. If you travel via Belgium and Cologne then you’ll avoid having to pay tolls on the French motorways. The journey is easy and relatively quick, take a couple of drivers and you can leave on Friday evening and be in resort by Saturday lunchtime. Get a few people in the car, share the driving and it’s easier – and cheaper – than flying!
It’s easy to travel by train from any of the airports. Just look for a train that stops at Jenbach, then transfer to the Zillertalbahn, the narrow gauge railway that serves the valley. The Mayrhofen stop is the last one one the line and the Gasthof is around a five minute walk. Check the Austrian train network OBB if you’re coming from Innsbruck or the German one Deutsche Bahn if you’re coming from Munich – links are to their English language pages.
